5 Ways to Have More Fun on Date Night

  1. Turn off the technology. Seems like a no -brainer, right? But, believe it or not, I see it all the time when Hubby and I are out on dates. One time, I witnessed a man completely turned around staring at the TV screen in a restaurant, while his wife sat there eating her meal…completely ignored. It was a very sad thing to see. Don’t be that guy (or gal). Turn off your cell phone ringer, too – and leave it out of sight. Treat your relationship with honor and respect, and you will get that back.
  2. Prepare for your date beforehand. Pick out your date night clothes ahead of time, decide where to go a week ahead if possible, and do your best to be in “date night” mode. Starting a date in a rush because you threw your outfit together and don’t know where you’re going is really lame. I know, because I’ve made that mistake…way too many times.
  3. Don’t talk about the kids. I can almost hear you saying, “what?!” in shock. Most of the time, its women who are guilty of this – myself included. But, he’s been away at work all day, and your three year old just learned a new song at preschool today? Tell him later…as in tomorrow. Talking about the kids takes the focus away from you two as a couple. Before you know it, the date is over, and you’re complaining that it wasn’t fun or meaningful.
  4. Send little reminders throughout the week. The anticipation is almost as fun as the date itself. Take
advantage of that by sending each other texts and phone and email messages, reminding each other about the coming weekend’s date night. Put some excitement and fun back into your relationship!
  5. Get past survival.  Talk about your dreams together on date night. Where would you like to travel to? What fun things would you like to do more of? You can even create a bucket list together. About a year ago, Hubby and I grabbed a bunch of magazines, cut out pictures and put together a dream board. We then hung it up in our bedroom, where we can see it regularly. The other day, Hubby said, “Do you realize we’ve already accomplished two of the things on that dream board?” Pretty awesome, isn’t it? Try it for yourselves!
