Before we started $20 date nights, Hubby and I rarely went out. We thought we couldn’t afford it. But one night after paying bills together, we decided all we had available for date night was $20 a week. We had previously tried $10, but that was difficult to manage (and we were getting rude looks from wait-staff). So, the new proposed amount was $20. Could we swing a fun date night on that small amount? Was it possible? We found out it WAS possible, and pretty darn fun too. I started thinking about other couples and their financial struggles, which often lead to marital struggles. There are stacks and stacks of books written by experts, who are all saying the same thing: go out together! Have fun together – and make great memories. Show your kid that cultivating your marriage is a priority; so they can learn to do that when they grow up and get married, too.

Since we started this date night thing – Hubby and I have learned a lot, and laughed a lot. Every week, we find ourselves counting down the days till our next date night. Honestly, we rarely feel the pinch with the $20 budget. We’re getting pretty good at this. Yes, we’ve been snubbed; but only once, which isn’t bad. We’ve been surrounded by unusually large flocks of birds, and Hubby once almost got attacked by a rooster in hiding. We’ve survived viciously hot Thai food, haunted restaurant rooms (well maybe), and massive bowls of Vietnamese soup, that we feared we’d drown in…and it’s been a blast!
